Around Hollenbeck Palms

The Real L.A. Noire

Everybody's talking about 1940s Los Angeles because "L.A. Noire" is the hottest video game around. So, naturally, we asked our Cutie, a resident of 1947 L.A., what it was really like in those days of gangsters, gun molls, night clubs, and wild livin'. Of course, Cutie's 1947 was a little sleepier, but still a place in time she remembers with great fondness.

Happy 73rd Anniversary

When the OGs celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on September 18, 2010, their grandkids surprised them with a bundle of beautiful cards and emails from their internet friends.

Startled but delighted, Cutie and a more-alert-than-he-looks Pop Pop took it all in, then exchanged gifts and messages of love to each another and to all of you, too.

Because after 73 years of love, an anniversary isn't just about the married couple anymore, but about the power of true love to outlast everything else. So Happy OGs' Anniversary to you! Now go out and tell somebody you love them.

Grandkids to The Rescue

We weren't always the blithely blogging seniors you see today. A few years ago, we were in a tough spot and weren't sure where to go next. Read all about our family's journey from confusion to clarity in Steve Slon's "The Connected Caregiver" blog.

Welcome, new friends from Japan!

We are excited to have been featured on "Tokudane Toukou Doga" on NHK public TV in Japan last night! Click the link below to see a cute turtle in trouble, and our section starts after 55 seconds.

Here is a brief translation of the portions of the piece that are in Japanese:

Grand parents who take good care for all people are topic on internet world.

America, Los Angeles. This day is the birthday of Harry Cooper, 98. The lady who is next to him is Barbara Cooper, 93.

Why is Barbara topic on? Because she takes good care of lots of people as a adviser. The questions are asked by grand children. Lately, the question from a lady who started to live with a boyfriend.

Q:1 (Barbara Answer). Q:2 (Barbara Answer)

Why have so many questions started to come? Because they are still in a good relationship with each other and introduced with good videos, even though over 90 years old.

Harry and Barbara are very proud to grand children Kim and Chinta who are posting videos.

Q:3 (Barbara Answer)

Many people are waiting for Barbara's good advice and they make people's hearts warm all over the world.

Couple Time

In today's short subject, Cutie and Pop Pop reveal that they don't always agree about what constitutes "couple time" while also demonstrating that after 73 years of marriage, married people have a special way of looking alike.

Cutie meets a cutie, or the new kitten

Cutie's never been much of a cat person, but when her granddaughters bring their new kitten for a visit, her heart melts. Tune in as Cutie goes "fishing" for kitty, tucks the critter into her top, remembers her Yiddish-speaking pussycat of many years ago, and sings a couple of adorable songs to her little furry friend. It's a cute explosion, and YOU'RE invited!

Pop Pop's Song of Love

As a companion to their very popular Cutie's Dance of Love video, the OGs offer this sweet morsel, the musical manifestation of seven decades of love.

Cutie's Book Nook: The Notebook

In a new feature on The OGs' blog, Cutie tells her digital friends how much she's been enjoying Nicholas Sparks' "The Notebook" -- which her grandchildren have been reading to her. She also takes time out to reflect on the one book that made her cry as a little girl, and to fuss over the family's new kitten.

Kitten and Cutie: can so much adorableness be on the same screen without causing mass havoc? Tune in and see for yourself. Coming soon: more kitten!

M-M-Manischewitz

A family joke about how, with all the attention they've been getting, someone might just ask The OGs to appear in an advertisement, led to Cutie spontaneously offering up a testimonial for the sweet Jewish wine that's been a part of her life since she was a young girl.

Manischewitz is one of the oldest Jewish brands in America, founded in 1888. In Cutie's non-drinking household, one bottle of their kosher wine can easily last several years--but she really does love it, as you'll see when you click below.
